Absenteeism is a lost opportunity to learn. We can’t afford to think of absenteeism as merely a lack of compliance with school rules. Let's work together as a community to make regular school attendance a priority.

When a student misses so many days that they are chronically absent (10% or more days) it means the lack of engagement in learning is an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed. Chronic absence affects all kids, not just the absent ones. #HereTodayReadyforTomorrow

We are excited to announce that four Lake County Schools have been recognized for successfully building a schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. PBIS is an evidence-based three-tiered prevention framework designed to improve and integrate all data, systems, and practices impacting student outcomes. National research shows that full implementation of PBIS leads to reduced exclusionary discipline and improved student and teacher outcomes by enhancing school climate, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and using data to identify supports. Congratulations to the following schools for being recognized by the FLPBIS Project as a PBIS Model School: Pine Ridge Elementary, Gold; Rimes Early Learning and Literacy Center, Silver; Astatula Elementary, Silver; Mount Dora High, Bronze.

Bright and early this morning, at 7 a.m., Senior Tristan Lorentz did his first solo flight toward his private pilot license. With a big crowd cheering him on from the ground, including his instructor, everyone looked up into the sky as Tristan completed multiple patterns in the sky, multiple takeoffs, and landings. Tristan received a $12,000 scholarship from the EAA Chapter 1632 out of Umatilla airport for his private pilot’s license. His next step will be training for cross-country flights!
Flying three mornings a week before school, dual enrolling with Lake Sumter State College and his high school curriculum as well, Tristan is soaring into senior year at MDHS!
